Now Viewing: ruby_roseTag type: Character The protagonist of RWBY. She is a silver-eyed teen girl who wears a red cloak/hoodie, and a black blouse and skirt with red trimmings. At 15 years old, she is the youngest and shortest of the main characters. Not to be confused with the Australian TV presenter of the same name. She is a cheerful, optimistic, and talented fighter who aspires to become a huntress. The fighting prowess she displays while foiling a robbery impresses the teachers at a hunter-training academy, Beacon Academy, and she is allowed to skip two grades. Despite getting closer to achieving her dream, she is uncomfortable with having skipped two grades to do so and doesn't want the other students to think she deserves special treatment. She has a close relationship with her sister Yang Xiao Lang and is rather reluctant to talk to other students when she first enters Beacon Academy but Yang insists that Ruby make friends of her own. Ruby's first attempts to make friends have mixed results; while she gets along well with male student Jaune Arc and is able to find common ground with Blake Belladonna over books, she earns Weiss Schnee's ire when Ruby accidentally falls onto Weiss's suitcases filled with Dust. Despite Weiss's contempt for Ruby, Ruby does her best to get along with the girl when the two of them begin training. The training proves to be rocky for the two of them as they have very different approaches to combat with Ruby often charging in under the belief that she can handle things herself in contrast to Weiss's cautious approach. However, the two of them begin to understand each other more during the course of the training and learn to work together. Ruby, Weiss, Yang, and Blake prove to be an effective team when they are confronted with a giant demonic bird and the four of them successfully defeat the creature with no casualties on their side. Ruby becomes the leader of this new team, RWBY. In combat, she uses Crescent Rose, which is a scythe/rifle hybrid designed by herself. She switches between both functions depending on the situation. Ruby has an interest in weapon design and when she set foot on Beacon Academy, the first thing she noticed was how impressive the students' weapons were. However, she is considerably weaker when she's unarmed. Nevertheless, she has a knack for foiling villains' plans, often when the antagonists least expect it. Ruby's Semblance is super speed and she can propel herself like a missile to escape or attack.Besides her Semblance and unbeknownst to herself, she also has a secret ability that's related to her silver eyes, which her mother also had. Silver-eyed warriors are said to be the most powerful of all, so much so, that even the Grimm are afraid of them. Ruby suddenly discovers this ability once she witnesses Cinder kill Pyrrha and activates it in her grief over Pyrrha's demise and rage towards Cinder. She also has a major sweet tooth with her favorite food being cookies. She also puts a lot of sugar in her coffee. Her personality in the main series is notably different from her debut in the first RWBY trailer which made her seem more serious. This is because the trailer was meant to be more of a showcase of Crescent Rose. Her actual personality emerged in the final Yellow trailer, which was also the first time she spoke onscreen. She also had a slight design change from her original appearance in the red trailer to the main series as she is the only character to have her 3d model updated. Ruby is Yang's younger half-sister, same father different mother. Both girls are united by the fact that they lost their mothers. Ruby's mother Summer Rose was a skilled huntress who was ultimately killed in battle when Ruby was a little girl and did not fully comprehend what happened. Ruby is shown visiting her mother's grave in her debut trailer. Ruby and Yang's father, distraught by losing two of his loved ones 'shut down' and Yang more or less became Ruby's caretaker. Her theme songs are Red Like Roses, which also doubles as the theme of Team RWBY as a whole, and Red Like Roses Part II. There are notably two versions of the latter song although that was not the original intent. The song premiered in episode 8 and was met with an overwhelmingly positive reception and demand. Composer Jeff Williams originally did not want to release the version of the song that was used in the episode because it was still incomplete and since the song was going to appear on the soundtrack CD, he did not want fans to pay for the song twice. However, the highly positive reception convinced him to release two versions of the song, the shorter version which was used in episode 8 and the complete version which appeared on the RWBY soundtrack. The complete version adds verses sung by Sandy Casey, Jeff's wife and Casey Lee Williams' mother, as well as a duet between Casey Lee Williams and Sandy Casey. Ruby is voiced by Lindsay_Tuggey, her first voice acting role with extensive dialogue (her previous small role in Red vs. Blue had no dialogue). She gets into character by calling out Yang's name a lot in Ruby's voice as well as moving her body in real life like Ruby would. Although she otherwise has no issue with profanity, Lindsay notably refuses to swear whenever she's using her Ruby voice, even when, as a joke, she's reading adult-oriented content as 'Ruby.'
